Obituary

Alcean Simpson, Sr. was born June 12, 1923 in Florence, Alabama to the late Tennie and Bessie Simpson, Sr.

On Tuesday, March 22, 2016 our Lord and Savior called Alcean Simpson, Sr. home.  Alcean Simpson, Sr. accepted Christ at an early age and was a dedicated and faithful member of Rock Primitive Baptist Church until his death.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served our country during the height of World War II.  For his service he was awarded the following medals:  the American Area Camp Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Camp Medal and the Victory Medal.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.

In December of 1948, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Ora Lee Johnson Simpson.  Alcean Simpson, Sr. dedicated his life to bringing souls to Christ.  I you knew him well you know that as he marches in he is singing his favorite spirituals, such as: "I Got Somewhere to Lay My Head" or "Trust in the Lord".  Alcean Simpson, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Lee Simpson and sons, William Lee, Michael Simpson, Sr., twin daughters, Sherie and Sherrie Simpson, brother, Samuel T., and sister, Clara Page.

He leaves to cherish his memories:  sons, Alcean (Virginia) Simpson, Jr., Lewis Simpson, Roderick (Sharon) Sheppard of Florence, Alabama and Randolph (Geraldine) Brewer of Ypsilanti, Michigan; daughters, Demetria (David) Liner and Sharon Busbee, of Florence, Alabama, Brenda Watkins of Sheffield, Alabama and Linda Gunn of Lima, Ohio; special grandsons, Christon Simpson of Rhodesville, Arkansas and La'Shaun Sheppard of Florence, Alabama; 35 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Carol Simpson of Irvington, New Jersey; one brother Tennie Simpson, Jr. of Ann Arbor, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Maragret Stewart of Belleville, Michigan, Jennie V. (Funrow, Jr.) Cole of Bellwood, Illinois; godson, Charles Smith of Chicago, Illinois; special cousin, Samuel Ragland of Florence, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
