Mr. Alex Armstead, Jr. was born on April 7, 1946, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, to the late Alex Armstead, Sr. and the late Nellie F. Johnson Armstead, he accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor Edward L. Martin and joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Later, Rev. Trevor M. Crenshaw became pastor. Under his leadership, he served as Parking and Transportation Team Leader, Trustee Ministry (Building and Maintenance Team Leader), Welcome Team (welcome during Sunday service) and lawn care person. In April of 2022, he joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walker Wingo, where he remained faithful until his death.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Nellie Armstead, Father, Alex Armstead, Sr. and Son, Carlton A. Armstead, One brother, James Gibson, Sr.; Four sisters: Mattie Mae Guins, Harriet Sanders, Cheryl Haney, and Sazzie Mae Thompson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Betty Koger Armstead. Daughters : Deanna(Jay) Richardson of Boston, Massachusetts, Leanna Thompson of Coventry, Rhode Island; Sandra Armstead and Bridgett Armstead of Florence, Alabama. Sons, Edward (Linda) Armstead and Reginald Armstead of Florence, Alabama; Donald (Geraldine) Boddie of Lawrence, Georgia; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Brothers : Harrison (Karen) Koger of Atlanta, Georgia; Jerry (Alfreda) Koger of Town Creek, Alabama, Frank (Sherry) Koger, Jr., John (Mildred) Armstead of Florence, Alabama, Charles Armstead of Defiance, Ohio ; Kenneth Daniels, Felix Armstead, Larry Koger, and Alexander Armstead, Jr., of Lima, Ohio. Sisters: Shirley (John) Berry of Florence, Alabama, Brenda (Floyd) Robinson and Patricia Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia; Annie P. (Greg) Brown of Lima, Ohio,; Janice Haney of Fort Worth, Texas. Aunt : Jennie B. (Funrow) Cole of Bellwood, Illinois, Sisters in Law : Josephine Lovelace, Selena Hardy, Anna K. Williams, Sarah Reedus, Dean K. Cole and Riffka Koger of Florence, Alabama. Brother-in-law : Hoover(Samantha) Koger of Florence, Alabama. Special friends : Percy (Edna) Bowens and Virginia Simpson of Florence, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
