Obituary

Anthony Bernard Abernathy was born on
July 26, 1967, in Colbert County to the late John Henry Abernathy
and Sigglee Eggleston Abernathy. He departed this earthly life
on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at his residence in Leighton,
Alabama.


Anthony accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age
and joined Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under
the leadership of Reverend W.M. Ford. Anthony graduated from
Colbert County High School in 1985. He attended Rets Electronic
Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. He was very talented with
a good work ethic. He grew up working with his father, later in
life he went to work for the carpenter's union before opening up
his own carpentry business. He was a trusted advisor, frequently
sought out by family, friends, neighbors, and the community for
advice on numerous topics, including electrical, mechanical, home
construction repair, and farming.


Anthony was preceded in death by his father, John Henry
Abernathy; maternal grandparents, Leroy and Mattie Bates
Eggleston; and paternal grandfather, Leo Abernathy, Sr.


Anthony leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife of 28 years,
Loretta Owens Abernathy; two daughters, Kandice Abernathy
of Montgomery, Alabama, and Kenyetta Abernathy of Florence,
Alabama; son, Tyler Abernathy of Huntsville, Alabama; stepson,
Darryl Owens of Florence, Alabama; four grandchildren, Lajavion,
Skylar, Kayson, and Kingston; mother, Sigglee E. Abernathy of
Leighton, Alabama; brother, Marlon (Geraldine) Abernathy of
Killen, Alabama; grandmother, Rebecca Adams of Leighton,
Alabama; seven uncles, Willie (Jonell) Eggleston of Sheffield,
Alabama, Breelove Eggleston of Houston, Texas, Donald (Sheila)
Abernathy of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and James Eggleston, Leo
Abernathy, Jr., Walter (Teresa) Abernathy, and George (Reba)
Abernathy, all of Leighton, Alabama; nine aunts, Mary Griffin
and Annie Rosette, both of Houston, Texas, Sheila (Ethon) Felton
and Edna Mitchell, both of Leighton, Alabama, Lucy Davis of
Waukegan, Illinois, Mary (Servon) Gilbert of Decatur, Alabama,
Lucy (Dr. Wayne) Bowman of Hillsboro, Alabama, and Lula
Eggleston and Brenda (Timothy) Howell, both of Muscle Shoals,
Alabama; sister-in-law, Christine (James) Jones of Muscle Shoals,
Alabama; three brothers-in-law, Oscar Owens, Winford Owens,
and Andrew (Linda) Owens, all of Leighton, Alabama; special
friends, Roy Carpenter and Craig (Courtney) Bryant; and a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
