Ms. Betty Welch was born in Sheffield, Alabama, on April 21, 1939. She attended Sterling Grade and High School. At an early age, she confessed a hope in Jesus Christ and was baptized and joined Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Sheffield.
In the mid- 1960's, she moved to Chicago Heights, Illinois, where she joined the local Baptist Church in the neighborhood in which she lived. She was employed by various soul food restaurants as a cook, where she was well-known for sharing her cooking expertise.
Betty loved the Lord, her family and friends, and singing gospel songs. Her health began to fail in 2007, and she relocated back to her hometown in Sheffield to be near family. She departed this life at Florence Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
Preceding her in death was her father and stepmother: Dave John and Addie Welch; her mother and stepfather: Earline Deloney Welch Goodloe and Empsie Goodloe, Sr.; grandparents: James and Dellar Blair Welch; sisters: Dellar Thomas, Irene Thirlkill, and Bobbie Jean Goodloe; and stepbrother: Robert L. Broaden.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted brother-in-law: S.T. Thirlkill, of Sheffield, Alabama; four sisters: Ms. Lela Short, of Sheffield, Ms. Barbara Freeman, of Florence, Mrs. Jessie (Johnny) Cowan, of Muscle Shoals, and Mrs. Glenda Faye (Dr. Grady, Sr.) Thompson, of Albany, Georgia; six brothers: Mr. Robert J. (Pat) Goodloe, Sr., Mr. Simon (Virginia) Goodloe, Mr. William (Doris) Goodloe, all of Sheffield, Mr. Charles Goodloe, of Florence, Mr. Empsie (Monita) Goodloe, Jr., of Muscle Shoals, Roland (Merita) Goodloe, of Harvest, Alabama; one uncle, Mr. William Welch, of Birmingham, Alabama; one aunt, Mrs. Gurnice Welch, of Sheffield; tow sisters-in-law, Ms. Valerie Goodloe, of Sheffield, and Ms. Annett Goodloe , of Corinth, Mississippi; a devoted niece, Mrs. Marilyn Jackson (Don, Sr.), of Muscle Shoals, and a host of caring nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
