Mr. Bruce Harvell, Jr., was born to Helen Bell Harvell and Bruce Harvell, Sr., on November 2, 1942 in Athens, Alabama. He departed this life on Sunday, January 29, 2017 . Bruce accepted Christ at an early age and joined Poplar Creek MB Church. He grew up in the Poplar Creek Community. In 1979, after marring his beloved Mary Parham, they made their home in the Swancott Community in Madison, Alabama.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: James Harvell, and two grand-daughters; Starsha Leigh Wilson and Jamie Howard. He was a member of the Trinity High School class of 1960 where he excelled as a member of the Panther's football team. Soon after graduation from high school, he became employed with Monsanto Chemicals in Decatur, Alabama where he retired after 40 years of service.
Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and farm the land. He had a very friendly personality and enjoyed talking with neighbors. He was the owner of Swancott Grocery Store where friends would gather just to talk, share and laugh together. He loved people, and he never met a stranger. He also loved God, and if you were to ever ask him, he would let you know that God is good.
Bruce leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Mary Parham Harvell, Madison, Alabama; children: Seretta Jones, Lynetta Harvell, both of Madison, Alabama, Kywanie Howard, Andre Howard, Darryl Howard, Carla (Glenn) Hood, Brenda Farrar, Ricky Farrar, Tammy (Clark) Rogers, all of Athens, Alabama, and Lynn Petty, Jeffersonville, Indiana; siblings: Katherine Turner, Huntsville, Alabama, Ethel Reese, Athens, Alabama, Dorothy Wright, Huntsville, Alabama, Shirley (James) Fletcher, Charles (Mae) Harvell, both of Athens, Alabama; 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends
