As the sun rises to commemorate a new day, a child is born to commemorate a new life. This new child, Charles Leonard Bean was born to the late Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Alberta Bean on July 1, 1950 in Florence, Alabama. The sun set beyond the horizon on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 9:47pm at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. Charles said "Goodbye" to mortality and "Hello" to immortality as he answered God's summon. His parents and three siblings preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Mark Baptist Church in Florence, Alabama. During his Christian walk, he later united with 46th Street Baptist Church Family in Birmingham, Alabama where he served as an usher and trustee and loved his church family. Charles was always eager to volunteer his services in any area of the church. Charles was a friendly, fun loving and generous person who never met a stranger. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He had a zest for life and enjoyed it until the Lord called him home. Charles attended Burrell Slater High School and was a member of the Coffee High School Class of 1968 in Florence, Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree from Alabama A&M University and he was a member of the marching band. Charles served in the United States Army and retired from the Army National Guard. He was awarded an Honorable Discharge. He was employed by BellSouth and retired from AT&T after 30 years of service. On December 19, 1998, he was united in holy matrimony to his soul mate, LaVerne Bell. They shared a beautiful life together for 15 years and 8 months.
