Obituary

Rev. Charles Hugh Perkins was born December 26, 1938 to the union of Mary Alice Chandler and Heslep Perkins Jr.  He was the youngest of tree children.

Charles accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young man and later became a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.  As a member he served his church in many ways including as a Trustee.  In 1992 he became an Ordained Minister of the Gospel and served as an Associate Minister.

He was a pillar of his community and belonged to several organizations including the Tru Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club and New Florence Lodge 583.  He participated in charity events with the Tru Freedom Riders such as the annual toy drive and Christmas party for children of low income families.  He also served his community as a member of law enforcement.  His career in law enforcement included:  Police Officer in Chicago, IL. Police Officer and Correctional Officer in Florence, AL., a Police Officer in Sheffield, AL., and Colbert County Deputy Sheriff in Tuscumbia, AL.

Charles loved to cook and in 1991 became a trained chef.  He enjoyed cooking for his family and people in his community.  It was his firm belief that no one should ever go hungry.

He loved people and he adored his family, especially his sister Mrs. Romelia Anderson.
