Charles Etta Thompson's Obituary
Charles Etta Beckwith Thompson, 93 was born on December 19, 1922 to the late Andrew Beckwith and Winnie Pearl Beckwith in Lauderdale County.
She departed her life on May 29, 2016 in Florence, Alabama.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age, and joined Bethel Lauderdale Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until her health began to fail. She also served on the Mother's Board while a member.
Charles Etta retired from the National Linen Service in 2001, after 32 years of service. She later served as a volunteer with the Northwest Alabama Foster Grandparent Program for the Florence City School System for nearly five years.
She united in holy matrimony to Willie (Bill) James Thompson on November 7, 1939. To this union, ten children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Thompson, Sr.; sons, Willie (Bubba) James Jr., Henry Clay (Katherine), Alvin, Leonard, and Carlton; daughters, Sarah Pearl Lambert (Paul), Martha Key (Peter), and Ernestine; brothers, Booker T., James, Walter, and Andrew Beckwith; and sisters, Flossie Mae Witherspoon, Josephine Bonner, and Flora Cole.
Charles Etta leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters: Celes Ernestine Thompson and Sylvia Thompson, of Florence, Alabama; daughter-in-law: Helen Thompson, of Birmingham, Alabama; sister-in-law: Emma Beckwith; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren; two special cousins: Edith Henderson, of Denver, Colorado, and Cyrusetta Creighton, of East St. Louis, Missouri; a host of other relatives and friends; Longtime devoted neighbors: the late Eddie D. Stovall, Nana, and family.
