Dennis Lee Summerhill, also known as "Dee"
or "Goldie", 62, of Florence, Alabama, passed away
Friday, April 14, 2023, at Huntsville Hospital. Dennis
was born May 6, 1960, to the late Sam Lee Summerhill
and Marie Murphy. Dennis was preceded in death by
his sister, Annie Marie Johnson; and aunt, Gertrude
Pearsall.
Dennis retired from the Florence City Parks
& Recreation Center. His favorite sport was Fishing
with his best friend since childhood, Curtis Jones, he
enjoyed reading western novels, and he especially loved
grilling. His most important role was being a father,
and he loved spending time with his adult children and
grandchildren. He had a really big heart and blessed
many. Despite his illness that affected his breathing, he
still had his sense of humor, and his jokes and sarcasm
made others smile.
He will be greatly missed and remembered by
his children, Jonitra Thompson and Jontrell Russell;
grandchildren, Aniyah Fuqua, Aceton Thompson,
Adalie Russell, and Acer Thompson; brothers and sisters,
Sharon (Eddie) Reynolds, Linda Olivia Summerhill,
Glenda Faye Green, James (Sherlane) Edwards, Earnest
Lee Murphy, Tommy Lee Summerhill, Thomas Guins,
and Samuel Lee Summerhill; and a host of nieces and
nephews.
