Derrick Tervor
Hicks
Sep 28, 1985 — Dec 29, 2022
Athens
On September 28, 1985, a very unique person named Derrick Tervor Hicks was
born at Athens Limestone Hospital. He entered into rest from the trials and struggles of this world on
December 29, 2022, at Huntsville Hospital.
Derrick was affectionately known to many as "Bossman" and "Big D".
Derrick confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Oak Grove CME Church, where he
sung in the youth choir and male chorus, and he played the drums. Later in his adult life, he joined Saint
Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Glenn Hood.
Bossman was a quiet and humble person who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend
a helping hand to others. If he considered a person to be his friend, he was a true friend. He loved to
be outside. He loved hauling cows and horses and anything pertaining to rodeos. Throughout his life,
Bossman traveled to many places where he participated in rodeos.
Though he veered off course at times he never forgot who God is. His favorite song was "If I Don't
Make it to Heaven, it Ain't Nobody's Fault but Mine" and "I'm Running for My Life". In the words of his
auntie Alice, "Derrick lived, he died, and he went on to Glory."
Derrick was preceded in death by many loved ones that loved him dearly and that he loved: Dave
and Willie Hicks, Lara Hicks, Price King, Melvin Davis, LaSonya Woods, James Hicks, Luke Hicks,
William Hicks, Price Hicks, TJ and Ophelia Barner, TJ Barner, Jr., Claude Barner, Larry Barner, Herbert
Barner, James Barner, Lawrence McGee, and Tier Norvel.
Derrick loved his nieces and nephews very much. He was loved by so many that his extended
family is too great to name.
Derrick leaves many to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted parents, Letitia Hicks
Davis of Athens, Alabama, and Hamp Barner of Gray, Georgia; seven sisters, Shereya Hicks, Brittany
(Raymond) Williams, Tervara Hicks, Sauntia Hicks, Niccole McCaulley, Cathy Morris, and Teresa Walter;
