Dora Smith was born July 19, 1949, the daughter of the
late Pearl McCord and the late Dennis Warren.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Church, devoting 32
years of service. She later joined New Life Church of Athens,
where she attended until illness rendered her unable to attend.
After school, she met Hillard Smith of Leighton, Alabama,
whom she married on May 9, 1970. They were married for
fifty years, until his passing.
Dora was employed as a caregiver to Dr. Anderson and family
for 30 years.
Dora was blessed with three sons, Kevin Earl (Pam) Bankston,
DeWayne Alton Bankston, and Aaron Devone Smith; a
daughter, Tonya (Shawn) Smith; four sisters-in-law, Fannie
Elder, Vickie Whiteside, Dorothy (Craig) Phillips, and
Mary Lee Whiteside; godsister, Dorris (Pat) Madden; two
brothers, Ray Warren and Dennis Warren; four brothers-in-law, Jessie (Sallie) Smith, Devon (Rabbit) Whiteside, and Don
and Michael Whiteside; one uncle, Hank (Hilda) Warren;
beloved grandchildren, Latricia (Chad), Corey, Chatae, Tyler,
Kieara, Jerika, Jamika (Lucas), Dewanna, Lexius, Armani,
Rhyeem, LV, LaQuece, Ebony, Donald (Hunter), and Ralph
(Bubba); 27 great-grandchildren; three godchildren, Omar
Smith, Rasmus Anderson, and Christina Kellum; a special
friend, Peggy Rhodes; nieces and nephews; and a host of other
relatives whom she loved dearly.
