Obituary

Floyd Wilson, Jr., was born August 9, 1925, to the late Floyd Wilson, Sr., and Anna Lou Houston.

He departed this life Monday, September 21, 2020, at his residence. He confessed hope in Christ at an early age. Later in life, he joined Poplar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member until his health declined.

He was united in holy matrimony to Sister Mary Bell Hicks on January 10, 1948. To this union three children were born: Rosenau, Mary Ann, and Marilyn. They also reared Charles and Marla Derrick as their own.

He began work for the City of Athens in 1977 and retired in 1991.

He is preceded in death by his parents, spouse, Mary Bell Wilson, and son; sisters, Elnora Mahaley, Catherine Cunningham, Maelou Nolan, and Arnell Farrar; and brothers, Carl Wilson, Hagen Wilson, and Byrd Wilson.

He is survived by his two loving and devoted daughters, Mary (Thomas) Phillips and Marilyn (Mickey) Green; two sisters, Elena Rich of Athens, Alabama, and Christine Wilson of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Marisha Woods, Kenetra Cannon, Brandon Phillips, Nakia Robinson, Tyrone Byrum and Tavares Hicks; sixteen great-grandchildren; a special nephew, John Farrar; a special friend, Willie Gizzard; and a special neighbor, Mamie Gilbert.
