Geneva Elizabeth Farrar Hicks was the fourth child born to Roy and Lera Farrar on September 26, 1928 in Athens, Alabama.She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Poplar Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Poplar Creek school as a child and graduated from Trinity High School. She furthered her education and attended Alabama A&M University.In 1949 , Geneva married her high school sweetheart, William Hicks, also from Athens, Alabama. Shortly after getting married, the Hicks' moved north to Cleveland, Ohio, then on to Detroit, Michigan and eventually settling in Westland, Michigan. To this union two sons were born, George Thomas(Tommy) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Learman Clevester(Larry, who preceded her in death). Shortly thereafter she became a member at Womack Temple CME where she was a faithful member of the Stewardess and Missionary Boards. Geneva was thoughtful, kind, and loving. Her warm smile, truthfulness, and honesty brightened the lives of all whom she encountered. In early years she was employed at the University of Michigan Hospital as a ward clerk, where she retired. In her later years she moved on to work with the Inkster Board of Education. In her spare time, Geneva would be found enjoying working the election polls. Geneva was also known for her love of catalog shopping and browsing the antique shops for her trinkets. She leaves to cherish her loving memory , her husband of 65 years, William Hicks; son, George Thomas; daughter-in-law, Audray Hicks; sister-in-law, Annie Yarborough Farrar; two granddaughters, Yolanda and Natale' Hicks; two grandsons, Khalil Learman Burks and Michael James Parrish II; her son in Christ, Yomi Flaran and daughter in Christ, Donna Garland along with a host of family, friends and loved ones.
