Gerard "Jerry" Hemen Jerry passed away at his home in Cherokee, Alabama on September 19 , 2010. Born to Purissima and Howard Hemen in Fairbanks, Alaska, February 11, 1931. Jerry had a twin brother George, brothers Lowell and Joseph, and a sister Elaine. Jerry was married to JoAnne and Jan, both loved and missed. All preceded him into spiritual eternity. Jerry's brother Denys and wife Darlene of Isle, Minnesota have been supporting us daily through this journey. Jerry has 2 sons, Robert, his wife Teresa of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, and George from Isanti, Minnesota. Jerry has 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. 23 nieces and nephews. A step daughter and son that he adored, Darleen Atchley and son Zach Smitherman, and William "Eddy" Atchley of Mooney, Alabama. Jerry also has a special place in his heart for AngeI Hemen of Pontiac, Michigan and Marie Bolton of Cherokee. Jerry would want us to mention his grandson Ryan, his love and courage living with his Grandfather the last year allowed Jerry to maintain a good quality of life and remain at his home where he wanted to be. Ryan, you are loved and respected for all you have done for your Grandpa. Thank You, for sacrificing your time to be with him. Jerry is a veteran of the Korean War, he was a refrigeration engineer in the Navy, a trade he carried through life. Jerry was self employed, he had a business in Minnesota and another in Alabama, both refrigeration companies. 10 years of enjoyment was his resort in Minnesota, Anglers Inn, on the north shore of Lake Mille Lacs, some of his most cherished moments were taking customers out on his launch for a day of fishing walleyes. Afterwards, he always treated each to a mug of beer or a cold drink to finish their experience. Jerry lived life with dignity and pride, he met every challenge with all he had to give. Visitation is at 12:30 prior to mass. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
