Grady Wilson Hailstock, son of the late Grady Wilson
Winston and Lillie Dale Hailstock, crossed over on Wednesday,
February 18, 2026, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield,
Alabama.
Grady, affectionately known as "G. W.," was born in Sheffield,
Alabama, where he attended elementary school before moving
to Washington, D. C., where he lived until he moved back home
to Sheffield eight years ago. G. W. graduated from Takoma
High School in Washington, D. C., acquired his pilot's license,
thoroughly enjoyed playing tennis, and worked as a mail carrier
until he retired.
G. W. was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cecelia Goode;
and brothers, Harold Hailstock and Richard "RV" Hailstock.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his two sisters, Othella
Burt and Loretta King, both of Sheffield, AL; four nephews,
James "Lolly" Burt (LaDonna) and Ronnie Montgomery, both
of Sheffield, AL, Myron King of Boynton, Florida, and Lyrl
Hailstock of Hawaii; eleven nieces, Vanessa Hailstock, Angelia
Hampton (Charles), and Melissa Price, all of Sheffield, AL,
Valerie Burt of Rossville, GA, Sonya Underwood of Sheffield,
AL, Donna Underwood of Harvest, AL, Karen Lacey (Donell) of
Pelham, AL, Thomatha Goode of Huntsville, AL, Carla Pegeron
of Brooklyn, New York, Brigitte Watkins (Dewayne) of Killen,
AL, and Shemika Wade of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of great
nephews, great-nieces, and friends.
