Janice Deborah Crayton Mayes was born on June 13,
1956, in Courtland, Alabama, to the late Willie "Jabbo" Lipscomb and
Vivian Crayton Chandler "Mutt". She transitioned from her earthly home
to her heavenly home on the morning of March 21, 2026.
Janice committed her life to Christ at an early age and united with St. James
MB Church. Following her marriage to the late Reverend Johnette Mayes,
she joined Mount Olivia MB Church, where she remained a dedicated
member until her departure.
A 1973 graduate of Bradshaw High School, Janice highly valued education.
She obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North
Alabama and later pursued graduate studies in counseling at UNA. Janice
retired from TVA after 11 years of service and served as a substitute teacher
for the Florence City school system for 10 years. She was also a proud
member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA).

and George (Margie) Mayes (Muscle Shoals, Alabama)- Sisters-in-law: Barbara Cobb "Bab" (Denver, Colorado) and Jeanette
Mayes Parker (Muscle Shoals, Alabama)
