Lovely JoAnn Davis was born on January 25, 1958, in Sheffield Alabama,
to the late George and Doris Lee Davis. She was one of seven siblings. Her
mother passed when she was three years old. JoAnn was cared for by the
Matriarch of the family, Aunt Nellie Mae Long, father, George Davis, and
JoAnn's siblings. She attended Southeast Elementary School in Sheffield,
Alabama. Her spiritual journey began at the Nineteenth Street Church of
Christ in Sheffield, Alabama, as a child.

After enlisting in the United States Army, her brother Arthur moved her
to Chicago, Illinois to live with another brother, Jim Long and family,
where she attended Fenger Academy High School and Maple Park United
Methodist Church.

After she became acclimated to her new home, she looked forward to trips
to the zoo, her nephew's little league baseball games, church activities,
and playing tennis in the park. JoAnn was very happy when her brother,
Nathaniel Davis, joined the household. However, she missed her other
siblings.

JoAnn worked as a CNA for twenty years in the Healthcare System. She
worked at McGuffy Health Care in Gadsden, Alabama, and retired from
Sunnyside Health Care in Queens, New York.

In her mature years, JoAnn lived a quiet life with her sister, Hazel Davis.
They shared church services, shopping, gardening, girl talk on the patio,
traveling to visit relatives, and caring for sick family members when she
could. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.
In her most trying moments, she turned to Christ listening to her favorite
songs and scriptures:

  She is survived by: brothers, Jim (Cora) Long of Chicago, Illinois, and
  George Davis III (Armina Chatman), of Birmingham, Alabama; sister,
  Hazel Nell Davis of Queens, New York; cousin/brother, Larry (Valarie)
  Brock; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
  JoAnn Davis was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Lee Davis; great-aunt, Nellie Mae Long; father, George Davis, Jr.; sister, Mattie Davis; and brothers, Arthur Davis, and Nathaniel Davis.
