Mr. John D. Alexander was born January 27, 1940 to the late Sam Alexander Sr., and to the late Rosie Hampton Alexander of Colbert County, Alabama. He was the seventh child born to this union.
God called him home on Monday, June 12, 2107. John worked as a lifetime employee of Ford Motor until his retirement. He also worked as an outdoor boat motor mechanic. He was affectionately known to his friends and community as "Big John".
John confessed hope in Christ at a young age and united with Mt. Zion AME Church.
He is preceded in death by one sister, Romelia Alexander; and four brothers, Willie James, George, Emmitt, and Sam Jr. Alexander; one brother-in-law, Edward Lewis; one sister-in-law, Ruby Jean Alexander; and his grandson, Javon Alexander.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving , devoted wife of 55 years, Mrs. Annie Alexander of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; two sons, Anthony Alexander (Charlotte) of San Diego, California, and Bryan Alexander (Crystal) of Decatur, Alabama; one loving and devoted daughter, Karen Yvonne Petty (Bryant) of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; two sisters, Ruth Ann Bates of Sheffield Alabama and Era Mae Lewis of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; one brother, Sammy Alexander of Mississippi; one brother-in-law, O'Neal Bates; and three sisters-in-law, Lucille Alexander of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Mary King of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Geneva Alexander of Sheffield, Alabama. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Brandon Alexander, Bryan Alexander, Jr., Anthony Alexander, Jr., Bryant Petty, Jr., Davonte Petty and Mariah Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Alivayana Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
