Larry J. "Meaty" Simpson died July 12, 2019. He was born August 14, 1954, to the late Lula Mae Doxie Simpson and Raymond Turner Simpson of Florence. Larry confessed Christ at an early age under Reverend Hamilton Smiley. He joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Florence. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lula and Raymond Simpson; nephews, Jamaal Jarmon and LaSean Simpson; uncles, Jerry Doxie, James Doxie, Jr., and Edward Doxie; and aunt, Bernice Doxie.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory: three sisters, Mrs. Ravena Jarmon (Oscar) of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Rita A. Simpson of Florence, Alabama, and Carla Sherrill of Nashville, Tennessee; nephews, Chris Simpson of Nashville, Tennessee, Alfonzo Ramon Jarmon of Bessemer, Alabama, and Neal Johnson of Miami, Florida; and a host of cousins, great-nephews, and friends, including special friend, Big Cat, Ramone (Piggy).
