Lee Jerome Glento Hyatt was born on March 27, 1944 in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee to parents Augustus & Novella Hyatt. At 72 years of age , he departed this life on October 4, 2016 at ECM Hospital in Florence, Alabama after a valiant fight with cancer. There is much peace in our hearts knowing that he will no longer have to deal with the physical and mental pains of that dreadful disease. We know that he is now living peacefully with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Jerome was one of thirteen siblings born to Augustus and Novella Hyatt. He attended school at McReynolds High School in South Pittsburgh and soon after joined the Air Force for four years, becoming a Veteran of United States Armed Forces.
In 1966 he married his sweetheart, Barbara Hale Hyatt. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 28, 2016. From this union came three beautiful daughters: Alisa, Andrea, & Amanda.
As a child he attended Randolph Methodist Church where he accepted Christ into his life. After moving to Muscle Shoals he eventually joined Mt. Olievia Missionary Baptist Church and rededicated his life to the Lord. He remained a faithful member until his health began to fail.
Jerome was a mechanic by trade, his initial training took place during his time in the Air Force. He was an awesome and knowledgeable mechanic his entire life. His amazing talents were always evident in his many projects such as building a mini car from the ground up and always having motorized toys for his kids and grandkids to ride and play with. He had the ability to build anything he put his mind to, including building additions to his home and making life-like play houses for the kids. He never had any problem sharing his knowledge with others. As long as you were interested in learning, he was more than happy to teach you. Sharing his skills with others was one of his greatest joys in life.
Jerome was also an amazing gardener. Every year he would plant fruit trees and a garden that never failed to produce an abundance of delicious vegetables and fruits which he gladly shared with any and everyone, friends, and strangers alike. Even going so far as picking the fruits and vegetables for those not able to do so for themselves. He did this for as long as his increasingly weak body allowed him to. He was extremely proud of his beautiful garden and fruit trees.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus & Novell, his youngest daughter, Amanda Leann, grandson C.J., sisters, Annie, Virginia, Freddie, Maggie, and Lovie, brothers, Winfred, Lloyd, Beenea, and William.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and faithful wife Barbara, daughters: Alisa (Deron) Young, Decatur, Alabama, Andrea (Elton) Jones, Muscle Shoals, Alabama, grandchildren: Jeremy (Imee) young, Jaleel (Britney) Young, Kayla Jones, Jalesa Young, Elton (Tooky) Jones, great-grandchildren: Braeden, Siara, Leah, and Aria, sisters: Marlene Buchanon, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Burmadene Banks, South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Yvonne (Milton) Brown, Biloxi, Mississippi.
Jerome was a kind and gentle soul who never met a stranger. His physical presence here on earth will greatly be missed but we all can rejoice in knowing that he is in the best place possible being reunited with our loved ones who have passed on before us and are welcoming him with open arms.
