Lillian Irene
Goodlow
Sep 4, 1957 — Oct 17, 2025
Florence
Ms. Lillian Irene Goodlow of Florence, AL, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center. She was a member of Trinity M.B. Church.
In 1976, the sports world marked a significant milestone as Lillian Goodlow, a phenomenal athlete and scholar from Bradshaw High School, made history by becoming the first female recipient of an athletic scholarship grant from the University of North Alabama (UNA). A dedicated leader with exceptional talent, Lillian captained both the volleyball and basketball teams, leading the Bruins to state championship contention in volleyball and averaging 15.4 points per game in basketball. Her signing was hailed by UNA officials as a cornerstone for the university's women's athletics program. This signatory event was a powerful example of her deeply held belief in excellence, establishing a legacy that forever changed opportunities for female athletes at the institution.
She was the special care giver to her eldest sister, Eliza Jean Williams. Lillian especially loved the Christmas holiday season. The giving of gifts, elaborately decorating the home with multiple 7ft Christmas trees throughout the four or five rooms in their home, hosting family dinner for the entire family, and greeting them all, visitors included, brought true joy to her.
Lillian was preceded in death by her father: Henderson Goodlow, Sr.; mother: Laney Goodlow; sisters: Nella R. White, Johnnie M. Cunningham, and Helen W. Thompson; brothers: Willie L. Williams, Eddie F. Goodlow, Raymond O. Williams, and Henderson Goodlow, Jr.
She leaves to treasure her memory three sisters: Eliza Jean Williams, Bettie M.W. Hooks, and Barbara Crenshaw, all of Florence, AL; special nieces: Tanekal White and Markitha Johnson; special nephew: Pastor Trevor Crenshaw; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends
