On Friday, June 1, 2018, at 7:50 p.m., our mother was given her Angel Wings. Lillian Tomcell Mars was born June 30, 1931, to Sarah and Tommie Johnson. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Curtis D. Mars on February 24, 1951. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage that lasted 53 years. From that union, they were blessed with four lovely children. Lillian worked in retail as a Senior buyer for Spiegel. She confessed her faith in Christ and joined Bethel Colbert Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member, usher, and missionary who loved to worship and serve the Lord. She loved her pastor and her church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis D. Mars, one son, Clinton Mars, and one sister, Katie Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Kevin (Audrey) Mars of Dallas, Texas; Daughters, Valerie Mars of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Wanda Simpson Woods of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Annie B. Gadd of Dayton, Ohio, Ruthie Harris of Chicago, Illinois, Eddie Brawley of Chicago, Illinois, aunt, Emma (C. Joe Jr) Byrd Hill of Hillsboro, Alabama; grandchildren, Danielle, Brandi, DiAndra, and Phillip; great-grandchildren, DiMia, Sara and Jaya; and godson, Perry Burgess of Muscle Shaols, Alabama; special nieces, Faye (Dwight) Goodwin of Dayton, Ohio, Linda Redmond of Lima, Ohio, Glenda Acklin of Sheffield, Alabama; special nephew, Rodney (Vanessa) Watson of Lima, Ohio; extended family, Bobby (Arnetha) Hardin of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; special family, Dinah Phillips of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
