Lillie L. Hawthorn was born July 22, 1928 in Wheelers, Alabama to the late Willis J. Moore and Caroline Pride Moore . She was the youngest of eight of whom all have preceded her in death. Four brothers, James Davis Emmanuel, Little Willis, and Robert Moore, Sr., three sisters, Fannie Cole, Rebecca Black and Mary Frances Thompkins.
Mrs. Hawthorn confessed a hope in Christ at 12 and joined Jerusalem MB Church, under the leadership of Rev. Robert Gregory. After her father's death, she moved to the city. She worked at E.C.M. Hospital and Reeders Hotel. She received her education at Slater School and Burrell High School. She moved to St. Louis, Missouri and joined Greater Fairfax M.B. Church under the leadership of Dr. Haymond Fortenberry. She served as Vice President of the senior choir, worked in Sunday School, B.T.U. Health Unit. She was a member of Charity of Grace #233 Order of Eastern Star. She worked 40 years at Incarnate Word Hospital. She retired from surgery in 1990. She moved back to Florence in 1991. She reunited with Jerusalem M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Cleo McDaniel. She was Chaplin of the choir; assisted with teaching Sunday School, and writing of the Sunday School minutes.
She leaves to cherish her memory: granddaughter, Carla Larterdale, (Fidell) St. Louis, Mo., a devoted and loving sister in law, Martha Moore, one aunt in law, two nieces in law, Shirley Moore and Salonia Black, both of St. Louis, MO., nephews, James E. Black, Lovell Moore, nieces, Rebecca Hood, Doris E. Poole, Rebecca (Thomas) McGee, LeMarquett Thompson, Easter (Charles) Betts, Sheree (Carzee) Wilcox, Chiquita (James) Rowlett, Frances L. (Nathaniel) Gadd, Tanya Moore.
A host of sweet and loving great nieces, and great, great nieces; devoted and caring great nephews, great, great nephews, and host of other relatives and friends.
