Madgie Lee
Hill
Nov 23, 1944 — Jan 7, 2025
Madison
Ms. Madgie Lee Hill was born November 23, 1944, in Florence, Alabama, to the late Sammie Lee and Annie Mae Hill. She passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, with her family at her bedside.
Ms. Madgie grew up on a farm and also picked cotton at a young age in Oakland, Alabama. Ms. Madgie attended Mt. Zion School. She was known to be "very smart." She was an "all-A student." In fact, she was so smart, she was passed in both sixth and seventh grades in the same year. She graduated from West End High School and completed a business degree from Faulkner University. She was highly proficient in short-hand. She was also a phenomenal cook and knew the art of canning foods. She was known for her many homemade food dishes, all from "scratch," no recipe needed. She was gifted with a singing voice and will always be remembered by her "captivating smile," no matter the circumstance.
Ms. Madgie accepted Christ and was an active member of High Street Church of Christ until she became suddenly and severely disabled at the tender age of 50. She then spent the last 30 years (daily) avidly studying the Bible from home. She loved watching TBN Network and other Christian channels (and didn't allow the
channel to be changed). In addition, she enjoyed participating on prayer lines, talking on the phone with her siblings, and debating about politics.
Ms. Madgie was employed as an Executive Secretary for the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she was able to take an early retirement. She was well-known throughout the Lauderdale County Courthouse not only for her "high fashion attire and stiletto heels," but also for her knowledge, skills, and expertise in assisting military veterans with their due benefits and other service issues. She served as a resource expert in her profession
with the VA. She also worked for a time in healthcare as a personal caregiver, as well as at ECM Hospital as a patient care tech.
Ms. Madgie loved her children and grandchildren tremendously, always stood by them, supported them wholeheartedly, always ready to help them out when necessary, while always fighting for them and with them. Despite life circumstances, there was ALWAYS a reason to spend family time laughing (hard) and
"giggling."
Ms. Madgie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rugener Hill-Williams; granddaughter, Trudi Loveless; and one son-inlaw, Ernest Loveless.
Ms. Madgie leaves to cherish her memories: her five children, Cynthia Loveless, Daryl Hamilton, Tonia Hamilton Boddie (Arden), Keisha Horton, and Kimberle Horton; eleven grandchildren, Keyaisha, Breiona, Demontay and Jacob Horton, Marecus Crittenden, Tya Loveless, Joshua Race, Devin Thompson, Brandon Neloms, and Kesley and Kayla Butler; six great-grandchildren, Na'Riyah Pryor, Jaiden, Jordan and Nyoami Horton, Ayden Biggs, and Kace Crittenden; three siblings, Josephine Beasley, Selena Harden, and Eddie Lee Hill; a host of
nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Spencer Butler who frequently checked in on her, took her food and supplies, and made sure she had the things she needed.
