Obituary

Mrs. Martha Adline Thompson Hampton was born on January 11, 1959, to the late Aurelia Oakley and Moses Thompson in Lauderdale County, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Mr. Alex Thompson Jr., Henderson Thompson, Eugene Thompson, Hugh L. Thompson, Lee A. Thompson and Early J. Thompson, all of Florence, AL; sisters, Doris Cloud of Lima, OH, Florine Williams of Florence, AL, Shirley Howard of Sheffield, AL; sister-in-law Sazzie Thompson of Florence, AL; brothers-in-law, Robert 'Rock' Cloud of Lima, OH and Samuel Howard of Sheffield, AL; cousin/dear friend, Nella White of Sheffield, AL.

Martha accepted Christ at Goodhope MB Church at the age of 12, under the leadership of G. E. Nelson. She was a faithful member of Trinity MB Church, serving in several ministries until her passing.

She was a diva in her own right. She always wore the latest fashion clothes, shoes, and accessories. Some would joke about how sharp she would be just walking to the mailbox.

Martha was a tenured employee of H.D. Lee, located in Industrial Park, Florence, AL, until the plant closed in 2001. She also spent several years working in customer service at McRae's, Parisian, and Belk until her health declined with her first battle with cancer (Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma) in 2012.

Martha wore the title "Granny" with pride. If you knew her, then you surely knew about her grandson, David Ray, or 'Granny's heart' as she would call him. He could do no wrong in her eyes. That was her heart. He loved to help her in the kitchen and always made sure she got all the kisses she wanted.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Hoke Hampton of Florence, AL: her loving and devoted caretaker/daughter, Queena Estrict of Florence, AL; one stepdaughter, Shanamar Hampton of Cleveland, Ohio; one stepson, Chris (Miranda) Hampton of Cleveland, Ohio; grandsons, David Estrict of Florence, AL, Madris Hampton, Isiah Hampton, and Trace Hampton all of Cleveland, OH; treasured granddaughter Kennedi Nance of Muscle Shoals, AL; sisters, Alma Embry of Lima, OH, and Thelma Turner of Florence, AL; brother, Jack (Lucille) Thompson of Florence, AL; aunt, Lucy Irons of Florence, AL; brother-in-law, Art Hampton of Lima, OH, sister-in-law, Wilda Sue Thompson of Florence, AL; dearest son Orlandous Johnson of Athens, AL; and cherished daughters Katie Moore of Pelzer, SC and Shayla Harris of Muscle Shoals, AL; devoted caregiver/cousin Barbara Crenshaw; highly valued friends, Vicky Stanfield and Dihanne Westfield; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
