Deacon Melvin Lamar Davis "Duck" was born to the late Sam Sr., and Eva Mae Turner Davis, June 3, 1955. He entered his eternal rest June 21, 2018, at his home.
Deacon Davis accepted Christ at an early age and worshipped at different churches throughout the surrounding areas. In 2011, he joined Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. In 2015, he was ordained deacon under the leadership of Pastor Glenn Hood.
Throughout his life, Deacon Davis sang with various quartet groups. He wrote gospel songs, played the bass guitar and performed in Switzerland with the Starlight Gospel Singers.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Letitia Hicks Davis on November 10, 2009. Together, they united nine children of whom one daughter, Teresa Norvel, preceded him in death. He was also preceded by one grandson, Tier Norvel, and son-in-law, Jeffery McCaulley.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Letitia Davis; five sons, Jerome Norvel, and Timothy (LaChica) Norvel; Huntsville, Alabama, Derrick (Ashley) Hicks, Athens, Alabama: and Evan Davis and Quentin Davis, Huntsville, Alabama; three daughters, Niccole McCaulley, Huntsville, Alabama, Sheraya Hicks and Brittany (Raymond) Williams; seven grandchildren, Jarrod (Halemah) Norvel, Sr; Jacksonville, North Carolina, Jadda and Janae Norvel, Huntsville, Alabama, Kaylen Hicks and Lauren Williams, Athens, Alabama, Jeremiah Humphrey and Tien Norvel, Huntsville, Alabama; and one great-grandson, Jarrod Norvel Jr., Jacksonville, North Carolina.
He also leaves to cherish his memories, one brother, Sam Davis Jr., Oceanside, California; three sisters, Thelma Jackson, Huntsville, Alabama, Sandra (Dennis) Grant, Marrietta, Georgia, and Cynthia Davis, Huntsville, Alabama; one brother-in-law, Kerwin (Rebecca) Hicks, Guntersville, Alabama; three sisters-in-law La'Sonya (Donald) Woods, Pulaski, Tennessee, Sauntia Hicks, Athens, Alabama; and Brenda Coffee, Nashville, Tennessee; three uncles; Sanders Davis Jr., Johnnie (Mattie) Davis, Huntsville, Alabama; Earnest Davis, Cleveland, Ohio; Five aunts; Cora Davis and Sarah Holt, Huntsvile, Alabama; Bertha Turner, Nashville, Tennessee, and Willie Alice Hicks and Elizabeth Hicks, Athens, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
