Robert Frank
Mccray
Apr 22, 1944 — Sep 22, 2021
florence
Robert F. McCray, Jr., was born on April 22, 1944, to the late
Robert McCray, Sr., and Julia Lee McCray.
Robert, or "Sleepy", as he was known by his family and close friends,
loved his family and his community. He graduated from Trenholm
High School in 1962 and enjoyed reconnecting with his classmates at
their high school reunions. After high school, he served as a Sergeant
in the United States Air Force from 1965 until 1971. As a civilian, he
was employed with Reynolds Metal Company as a machinist.
Robert had many interests and hobbies, including fishing, music,
and the occasional trip to Tunica, MS. Robert loved to read and learn
about the world he lived in, whether it was how to make the perfect pot
of neck bones, home remedies for various ailments, or how to rebuild
the motor of his 1989 Honda Accord, Robert had a book for it. His
love for learning and the importance of an education was something
that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He adored his
family and dedicated his adult life to caring for his two children and
grandchildren. He was the oldest of six siblings with whom he shared
an unbreakable bond. He enjoyed attending family functions, where
he could fellowship with family and celebrate their successes, as well
as be there for support during difficult times.
His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Dr.
Robert D. (Heidi) McCray and Candace (Samuel) McCray Forbs;
grandchildren: Garrison McCray, Brennan McCray, Caleb Forbs,
and Kate-Kelly McCray; sisters: Wanda M. Lewis, Lafrazia (Robert)
Russell, Glenda (Ellis) Lovelace, and Marsha (Leon) Ricks; brother:
Victor (Edna) McCray; aunt: Christine Thompson; and former
wife and life-long friend: Beverly Perkins; along with many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.
