Samuel Dale
Barnett
Mar 3, 1945 — Jul 4, 2025
Florence
SAMUEL "TUMP" DALE BARNETT, born on March 3, 1945,
in Florence, Alabama, to the late Ida Mae and Albert Barnett, passed
away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family July 4, 2025. He
was the cherished brother of eight siblings, including the late Shirley
Butler, Mary Lee Bumpus, Mattie Parker, Ella Barnett, Leroy Barnett,
and Albert Barnett, Jr. He is survived by his siblings, Julie Ingram and
Charles Barnett.
Samuel accepted Christ at an early age at St. John Primitive Baptist
Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon alongside his parents.
Later, he became a dedicated member of Trinity Missionary Baptist
Church, remaining active until health challenges began to arise.
A hard-working man, Samuel spent many years at Ford Motor Company
and General Motors, where he proudly served as a Union Representative
before retiring. After retiring, he briefly worked at the Florence City
Parking deck part-time. His commitment to hard work was a principle
he instilled in his children. Samuel loved to travel to visit them, although
he often joked that he missed too much money while away from work.
For sixty years, Samuel was married to the love of his life, Ruth Olivia
Barnett. Together, they raised five amazing children: the late Toleda
Barnett, and the surviving Sedric (Deanna) Barnett, Renita Barnett
Jefferson (Quinton), Kelvin (Tori) Barnett, and Tangela (Terrell) Butler,
and a bonus daughter, the late Kim Ann Thompson. Samuel took immense
pride in his family, often sharing stories of their accomplishments with
friends, doctors, caregivers, and even the bank teller. He leaves behind
11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. His grandchildren held a
special place in his heart, and he cherished the playful moments spent
with them. Samuel also leaves behind a dear friend, Jeff Perkins. He
often spoke fondly of Jeff's visits and the meaningful conversations they
shared, which brought him great joy and comfort.
Samuel leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish
his memory. Among them, his special niece Teresa Parker held a unique
place in his life, not only as family but also as his devoted nurse. She
visited him frequently, both in the hospital and at home, providing care
and comfort throughout his journey.
During his illness, his devoted wife and children came together to
provide him with exceptional care, demonstrating their unwavering
love and support until his last breath.
Samuel will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of hard
work, love for family, and faith will continue to inspire those left behind.
