Obituary

Mr. Savonte' Tremaine Simpson, 20, of Rogersville, Alabama, left the earth to be with the Lord on April 16, 2018, 12:21am at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. He was a very friendly and loving person. In spite of limitations, he tried to show love and kindness to everyone.

Savonte' was born September 24, 1997, in Birmingham, Alabama. At the age of 9 he moved to Rogersville, Alabama and began attending Lauderdale County Elementary School. He accepted Christ and joined Ekklesia Ministries. He later became a member of First Baptist Rogersville, where he was a member of the youth group and the worship band. Over the next few years, he and his sister lived with his uncle Marcus, Mr. John Williams (foster-parent) and Ms. Gloria Sanders (foster-parent). In 2010, they were both re-united with their father in Rogersville. During his years at Lauderdale County, Savonte's gift for music was discovered. He participated in the marching and concert bands at the school under the direction of his uncle Marcus and Ms. Sarah Hurst. He was also selected to the Alabama Bandmasters Association All-State Band (5 years in a row), Shoals Area Honor Band (6 years in a row) and was a part of several other honor bands were he consistently received high chair placements. He primarily played the alto and baritone saxophones, trumpet, baritone, tuba, keyboard and guitar.

After graduating with academic honors from LCHS in 2016, Savonte' was awarded a Band Scholarship and the Excellence Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement at the University of North Alabama. There he participated in the Pride of Dixie marching/symphonic bands and several instrumental ensembles on campus. The family is very grateful to the faculty, staff and students of both Lauderdale County High School and the music and mental health departments of the University of North Alabama; Riverbend and UAB Hospital staffs for the love and support shown Savonte'.

He leaves to cherish his legacy of love, his father, William Simpson and mother Jackie (Dale) Gillespie; brother De'Angelo White and sister Kayla Simpson; uncles and aunts Niyah (Darryl) Griffin, Marcus (Jeneen) Stewart, Tayo Reed,  DeQuraius (India) Motley and Erskine Anthony; god-parents Jeff and Maria Cole, best friends Adam Cole & Zach Warner; and a large host of other family, including many great uncles and aunts, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Erskine and Norma Gail Simpson
