Obituary

Mr. Thomas David Jones, Jr. was born in Florence, Alabama on May 5, 1939, to the
union of Estella (Summerhill) and Thomas Jones, Sr. Both parents preceded him in
death. Tom, or Junior. as he was affectionately known, was nine years old when his
family moved to St. Louis. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at
the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, where his mother was a lifetime
member. He graduated from Vashon High School in 1957. Upon graduation, he
enlisted to become a distinguished member of the United States Air Force, where he
served his country as an aircraft loadmaster. While stationed in Germany, in his
leisure, he was a boxer (physical fitness was always important) and performed as a
singer (his voice was melodious) in a local pub band. After his honorable discharge
during the Vietnam War, his continued love of airplanes led him to pursue and obtain
his pilot's license from Parks College. Tom also graduated from St. Louis Community
College with a degree in Accounting.

He was united in holy matrimony to Lemonia (Herron) Jones, June 25, 1967, at West
Side Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri.

Thomas was the proud father of three children: Corinna, Thomas III, and James.

Tom's strongest love was for his family. Yet, his compassion and generosity
stretched far beyond them. He was thoughtful, as evidenced by the light and energy
that permeated through his smile. Family connections were important to Tom. He
often returned to his birthplace of Florence, Alabama, as well as, traveled to
Tennessee and Georgia to visit with family and support them.

He was a very diverse man. He loved family, reading, music, and fitness. He was an
avid jogger and a big juicer, long before it gained popularity. Through the years, he
worked as a building inspector for the City of St. Louis, a licensed insurance and real
estate broker, and held various positions with Ameren. After retiring, he continued to
show his love for family and community by working as a substitute teacher. He was
also involved in condo real estate in downtown St. Louis.

Tom served the veteran community for several years. As an active member and
officer at the American Legion Spanish Lake Post 335 Auxiliary, he was committed to
enhancing the well-being of veterans and their families. Tom was also active in his
church communities. He was a Trustee for many years at Prince of Peace Missionary
Baptist Church. He joined Northside Seventh Day Adventist Church in the summer of
2005. He was an active and constant pillar for The Pantry, tirelessly traveling to
handle the daily food pick-ups from grocery stores across the St. Louis metro area. In
2016, he was awarded The Community Service Award, honoring his dedicated
service. Later that year, Tom relocated to Georgia to be with his children and
grandchildren.

Thomas entered the land of eternal rest and peace on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at
Stonebridge of Florissant, Missouri. He was a devoted father, brother, uncle, and
grandfather, a blessing to his family for 82 years.
