A Time To Be Born
Vanessa Starr Armstead was born on March 11, 1965, in Florence, Alabama, to Charles
and Rubye Armstead.
A Time To Learn
Vanessa was educated in the Florence public school at Coffee High School, and she
excelled in academics and sports. She was an avid volleyball and basketball player.
A Time To Plant
The seed of salvation was planted in Vanessa at an early age. She accepted Christ at
Petersville Missionary Baptist Church and worshipped faithfully.
A Time To Love
Vanessa married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life. Born to this union
were two children, Jermaine Diame and Juan Dominique. She was affectionately called
"Boo" by her family and friends. She was a giving and caring person who truly loved
her family, and her grandchildren were the light of joy in her life. She also found joy in
staying at home unless someone said, "Let's go to Bingo or the Casino."
A Time For Glory
On Tuesday mornig, November 8, 2022, she departed this life after a brief battle with
cancer at the age of 57. God said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. Suffer no
more. Thy race has been run. Come and receive thy rest."

Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, Christopher
Garner; sons, Jermaine Garner and Dominique (Deneka Davis) Garner; parents,
Charles and Rubye Armstead; grandchildren, Ja'Davian, Starr, Messiah, and Ja'Layah
Garner, Laken Peters, and James Greene; great-grandchild, Braylin Peters; siblings,
Barbara Armstead, Sharon (PaRon) Dillard, Charles Armstead, and Towanda (Damon)
Williams; mother-in-law, Ella Mae Garner; sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth Garner, Diane
(Jet) Newsome, Hattie Johnson, Meocia (Shell) Holloway, and Janetta (Renee) McCown;
brothers-in-law, Donnie, Eddie, and Randy Garner, and Curtis (Vicky) Goodloe; aunts,
Gilda Hooks, Cardella McDaniel, Carrie Coman, and Dorothy (Arthur) Thomas;
uncles, Michael (Joyce) Brown and Tyrone (Shelly) Brown; devoted cousin and friend,
Deborrah Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Vanessa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sadie Mae Armstead Williams,
Frank and Gennieve Brown; aunts, Myra Howell, Nelly Marie Alexander, Shirley Key,
and Annie Washington; and uncle, Ricky Williams.
