Obituary

Mr. William Andrew Denton, 83, of Florence, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Rehabilitation Center in Florence, Alabama, with his beloved wife and daughter at his side.

He was born July 7, 1932 in Cherokee, Alabama, where he attended Cherokee High School, and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1950.  After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years, and served as an Atomic Cannon Technician for a period during that time.  He was also a veteran of the Korean War.  After completing his tour of duty, he continued his education at Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama, after which he went on to be employed with Reynolds Metals for 38 years, until he retired.

Upon his retirement, he was able to spend time doing many of the things he loved, including traveling, researching his family lineage, and spending time with his beloved family.  Family was always of utmost importance to him.  He loved his Malone and Denton family.  He always enjoyed helping to  plan and prepare for the next Malone family reunion, and was always excited to attend the Jones-Duncan-Denton Reunion, no matter where the location might be.  He also considered the people of the Carter's Branch Community in Tishomingo, Mississippi (birth place of his dearest wife, Sallie) to be his family as well.  Mr. Denton leaves a legacy of love, happiness, and cherished memories with his loving wife of 58 years, Mrs. Sallie M. Denton .  Their union was blessed with one son, David Dewitt Denton, who passed shortly after his birth; a loving and devoted daughter, Ms. Salena Kay Denton; his pride and joy, a grandson, whom he adored like a son, Kaelin William Denton; nephew, Mr. Norris Denton (Elizabeth); sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Denton; brother-in-law, Mr. Stonie J. Martin (Ora Lee); and a host of family, including many nieces, and nephews by marriage , his treasured cousins, many of whom were like siblings, and many friends.

Mr. Denton was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Connie Mae (Malone) Denton; brother, James Earl Denton; sister, Hattie Denton; and infant son, David Dewitt Denton.
