Obituary

William Hicks was born September 3, 1927 to Angus and Thelma Hicks in Athens, Alabama.  He was one of five children.  Three brothers, Evans, Thomas, Willie (twin), all preceded him in death, and one sister Myrtle.  He confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Oak Grove C.M.E. Church.  As a child William attended Limestone County Public School.  As a young man William, along with his twin brother Willie and close friends William and Mitchell, would sing together in a gospel quartet named, The Browns Ferry Gospel Singers.  They were well-known throughout the Athens area and would regularly preform their gospel selections and could often be heard on a Sunday afternoon radio program.

William was united in holy matrimony to the late Geneva Farrar on September 23, 1949 in a double wedding ceremony with their good friends Mitchell and Janis Binford.  Shortly after getting married the Hicks moved north settling in Westland , Michigan.

To this Holy Union, two sons were born, George Thomas Hicks (Tommy), and Learman Clevester Hicks (Larry, who receded him in death).  Once settling up north the Hicks joined Womack Temple C.M.E. Church in Inkster, Michigan where William was a loyal and faithful member of the Gospel and Senior Choir, and the Steward & Trustee Board.

William was employed at General Motors as a pipe fitter for 43 years.  In his spare time William would listen to his favorite gospel albums by the Pilgrim Travelers, the Soul Stirrers, or The Dixie Hummingbirds.

On Saturday, April 23, 2016 William made his transition to be with the Lord leaving to cherish his precious memories, his son, George Hicks, sister Mrytle  Hicks Davis (Odis), daughter-in-law Audray Hicks, grand-daughters Yolanda J. Hicks and Natlie D. Hicks, great-grandsons Khalil Learman Burks, and Michael James Parrish II; and one sister-in-law-, Annie Yarbrough Farrar.  William touched many lives and will be affectionately remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
