Willie Lee
Phillips
Jan 18, 1946 — May 22, 2022
Muscle Shoals
Mr. Willie Lee "Bubba" Phillips
lived 76 years. He
was born on January 18, 1946, in Sheffield, Alabama,
to the late R. D., Sr., and Flora (Madden) Phillips. He
departed this life on May 22, 2022, at UAB Hospital in
Birmingham, Alabama.
He attended and graduated from Leighton Training
School in 1965. After high school, he relocated to
Flint, Michigan, where he was employed with General
Motors Corporation. While there, he met and married
his first wife, Sheila Matthews Phillips. Years later, he
moved back to Alabama and further pursued his love
of over-the-road truck driving. He then later met and
married Edna Ricks Phillips. He rejoined Mount Zion
A.M.E. Church where he served as head of the steward
board, served on the financial committee and sang
in the male chorus and senior choir actively until his
health declined. He was an over-the-road truck driver
for more than 50 years and had recently retired from
A-1 Transport Services. When he wasn't on the road
traveling and visiting distant family members, you
could find him grilling or frying fish with family and
friends. He loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Ricks
Phillips, parents, brothers, John D. and R. D., Jr.,
Phillips, brother-in-law, Horace Smith, sisters-in-law,
Jeraldine and Zela Phillips, and nephew, Lawrence
Phillips.
