Willie (Billy) Edward Suggs, Jr., was
born to the late Willie Sr., and Lillian Mae Suggs on
November 15, 1936, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. He was
educated in Tuscumbia City Schools, where he graduated
from Trenholm High School. He also attended Alabama
A&M University in Normal, Alabama. He later joined
the U.S. Army, where he served his country, while also
becoming a certified brick mason and obtaining the
knowledge to brick his own home. He became employed
by Reynolds Metal Company, where he worked for 34
years, until retirement. During his tenure at Reynolds,
he wrote a song about the company. He departed this life
on November 15, 2019.
Billy was a member of the First Missionary Baptist
Church of Tuscumbia, later joining the Mount Olive
Missionary Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals, Alabama,
where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, was
a choir member, as well as a Sunday school teacher. He
enjoyed watching westerns and the Andy Griffith Show
on television and being a mentor of wisdom to both
young and old.
He is preceded in death by: his wife, Barbara; son,
LeChester Suggs; parents, Willie Sr., and Lillian Mae
Suggs; brother, George Suggs; and sister, Patricia Oates.
Left to cherish his memories: two daughters, Deloris
(Charles) Jarmon and Dorothy (Keith) Abernathy,
both of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; one son, Thomas
(Angela) Suggs of Madison, Alabama; twelve
grandchildren, Tiffanie, Chuckie, Xazavier, Deion,
Tavian, Solomon, Chiquita, Tiffany, Chris, Kayla,
Sydney, and Melissa; five great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Janas Acklin and Mattie Beachum, both of Tuscumbia,
AL; three sisters-in-law, Eunice Young of Zion, Illinois,
Edna (Curtis) Stewart of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and
Alexis Suggs of Marshall, Texas; one brother-in-law,
Connie (Pamela) Burt of Leighton, Alabama; and a host
of relatives and friends.
